La Poesía de la Comida
In this project, we learned about the different kinds of food that are eaten in different spanish-speaking countries. To start, we signed up for one of the spanish-speaking countries from a list. We then started researching different dishes that come from that country. Out of those dishes we found, we each picked one that we could make with the resources available here in Durango. We then typed up the recipes for these dishes in spanish. Then we chose either a specific indredient in our dish or our dish itself and wrote and ode to it. These odes were written both in spanish and in english. We then cooked our food and presented our food and our odes to the public in the form of an exhibition.

Project Reflection
I think that this is the project that i enjoyed the most out of all the projects we did all year. I like the fact that there was food involved. I mean, who doesn't like food? I also liked having to write poems about our food. Writing a poem is hard enough, but when you have to write it in spanish? That's even harder. Having to write the poems improved my vocabulary and grammar usage tremendously. We had to use the preterite past tense and commands and all kinds of other things. Overall I really enjoyed this project and would recommend it to be done again next year.

In this project, we each chose a spanish-speaking artist to write about. We researched the artist and wrote a three paragraph essay about them. We then started working on an art piece that was based on the artists original work. then we wrote a speech about our project and presented it to the community.
Reflexión
One thing that I learned was that most of the painters we studied were heavily influenced by religion. Another thing I learned was that king and other royal had their own personal painter that painted portraits of them or their family. I think that this project really made me think about when I need to use the imperfect tense and when I need to use the preterit tense.
One thing that I learned about Joan Miró that I thought was interesting was that he originally went to business school because his father wanted him to, but later dropped out to go to art school. Because of this he became a world famous painter and sculptor.
I think that one thing I would do differently next time is have my art piece a little bit more representative of me. My art piece was basically the exact same as the original but was made with different materials. I think that next time I would make the soap a body and the whole thing a figure. Overall, I liked this project and the things I learned throughout the duration of it.

Explanation of the Project
In this project, we wrote a book about a town in a Spanish-speaking country we chose. We had to explain different aspects of the town. For example, we had to show a festival that is celebrated there. Oh, and one more thing; the whole book had to be in Spanish.

My reflection about the project
Mi reflexión del trabajo
One thing that I took away from this project is how cool a place the town I researched is really cool. Doing this project and learning about the culture in this town really made me want to go there. The town I chose is nestled in the beautiful mountains of western Panamá. The weather there is always good, and the people seem to be warm and welcoming.
One thing that I am proud of in this project is that all of the pictures that I put in my book were of the actual town, and not just a place that looked like the town. I am proud of this because it is a lot harder to find the picture that I want but also have it be from the specific place. Another thing I am proud of is the professionalism of my book. I used Photoshop to create my pages and then printed them out and glued them in with a glue-stick. Gluing the papers I made in Photoshop to the pages of the book made the pages very sturdy and feel more like an authentic book because of it.
I think that the hardest thing about this project was getting our stories to have a continuous narrative while also explaining the different aspects of the culture. We had to come up with a plot line that did both of these things, and would be entertaining for younger audiences. I think that this was the hardest part.

The exhibition with Del Alma
La exposición con Del Alma
To exhibit our books, we went to went to Needham elementary and read our books to kids. We partnered up with another kid in our class and sat down with one kid and take turns reading our own books. When we finished our books, we would read a book that the kid had picked out before hand. Overall, I think that this was a good experience. It was fun to watch the kids who knew a little Spanish get excited when they understood something out of our books.
