Model Senate Capstone Project
First Amendment Media Project
In this video, we explore the Establishment Clause and how it affects what schools can and cannot put in the curriculum. School officials make a statute prohibiting the teaching of evolution, teachers are tackled, and judges rule. This video was made as a project exploring the rights our First Amendment gives us. Watch and enjoy!
Free-Speech Forum Project
The purpose of this project was to explore and define our protections as students under the First Amendment. We set out to find whether or not we have the same rights during our time at school as when we are not at school. We delved into the ways that laws come about, we learned about the times that our government was founded in and how they affected the Constitution. We looked at the language in the First Amendment that allows us to say what we want, we searched far and wide for case laws pertaining to our own lives here at Animas High School. Then, we took all this knowledge, and applied it. We each chose an example of free speech that we connected to personally. I chose the political cartoons of the well-known Dr. Seuss. We then wrote an essay answering the question, "Why is the right to free speech important to our democracy, and how does your selection show/prove this?"
