I started the day with an orientation meeting in the purchasing/procurement area. I joined Patrick and Robbie, the two other new hires, at Bill's desk to get the low-down on his department. We were informed about each employee in the purchasing department and what they do to contribute to StoneAge. It really is amazing how much each one of them takes on each day. Then we went over to the sales department to learn about how orders are received. Valoree explained to us how she receives shipments and then puts them in the right format to be sent downstairs to the shipping department. It was interesting to see all the different programs that are needed to get an order from the customer through sales and out the door. After sales I had some downtime until my next meeting, so I continued to explore SolidWorks and made a hinge through the tutorial. I am currently trying to make a hippy van and the axle is the hardest part. Then it was time for me to attend the "Welcome to StoneAge" presentation. This was a slideshow that showed the history, goals, and values of StoneAge as a company. It was interesting to see how StoneAge has grown and had to accommodate that growth. After that presentation I took lunch. After lunch, I went to help Hugh with a project he had wanted help with. He was trying to put in a three-way valve to control the flow of water between the pump, the tank, and the testing machine. We had to make two plates we could use to mount the valve on the wall. We then had to get the piece welded, but in the meantime we go the place it was going ready. We cut away the noise padding and drilled holes for the plate. We then attached the plate and called it a day.
